Hi everyone! Sorry for the lack of updates from me lately, I am overseas and have very little access to the internet. Yes, there are still places in the world where high speed internet is not available! But I had to connect to share this great news - I have teamed up with my brother-in-law Bob Weir, Ric O'Barry, Louie Psihoyos, Earth Island Institute, Save Japan Dolphins, Hamilton Ink PR, Steep Productions and the Rafael Film Center to put together a very special summer night in Marin for the dolphins, read all about it here.

First of all, I apologize of the lack of updates recently. I have been busy making lots of changes to my racing website, I design and maintain both my websites on my own so I hope you like the changes! Next I will be doing a major redesign of this eco site, it will likely take me a few weeks to complete. The Carbon Free Girl site as you know it now, is going to be gone. But I think you will like the new version even better! If you have any feedback, requests, or questions, visit my Question & Answer section.

This has been a big week for Carbon Free Girl, Leilani Münter. First she was named in Newsweek's List of Surprisingly Green People and Things, then she was named as one of CocoEco Magazine's List of 2010's Most Influential Women in Green and today Leilani was named as one of Huffington Post's Creative Minds 2011: People We Expect Great Things From. dolphin drive at the cove and private space reveals his nickname for dolphin activists

On October 16 (Japan time) Save Japan Dolphins volunteer Greg Hauswirth and myself filmed a dolphin drive at The Cove in Taiji. We also had another interaction with our old pal Private Space, who revealed that he and his buddies also have a nickname for dolphin activists. I don't think he expected me to translate his phone conversation, but let this be a message to you: There are people in Japan who are fighting from within to end the dolphin slaughter, and lucky for me, they are willing to translate your words. Nice dolphin teeth hanging from your cell phone, by the way. Meanwhile, I am learning Japanese so the next time I come to Taiji (yes, I am coming back) I will be able to better communicate with all of you.

October 14 is International Save Japan Dolphins Day and there were demonstrations all over the world. Click here to view the gallery. Fellow Save Japan Dolphins volunteer Greg Hauswirth and I were at The Cove in Taiji and we decided to release roses into the water to honor the memory of the dolphins who have lost their lives there. The local police made us remove the roses.

Today I had my long awaited meeting with the most famous fisherman in Taiji - Private Space. He had just returned from slaughtering a pod of dolphins in The Cove.

I am currently in the little town with the really big secret: Taiji, Japan, made famous by the Academy Award winning documentary The Cove . I am here as a volunteer for Save Japan Dolphins and Earth Island Institute. This is my second trip here since the killing season began on September 1st. Although I have seen the movie many times, this week was the first time I was in Taiji during a dolphin slaughter.

The last two days I witnessed one of the hardest things I have ever seen in my life and I will never be the same.

saved one life today

Today we woke up at 4am in order to make our way to the Tsukiji Fish Market before catching the train to Taiji. It is the largest fish market in the world. If you have seen The Cove, you will recognize it. You have to be on your feet there, as the fishermen are zipping by on their carts carrying dead sea life of all forms. It was tough to see, blood and guts and heads everywhere - of every single kind of ocean life you can imagine. Tuna, swordfish, lobsters, flounders, cuttlefish, squid, crabs, mussels, barracuda, triggerfish, pufferfish - they were all there and they were all dead or dying.

my racing season over, i'm headed for taiji

I'm back on a plane headed for Japan again. (My husband and I were there in September with activist Ric O'Barry) Last week I carried a Save Japan Dolphins logo on my race car at Kansas Speedway but after my motor overheated on lap 5, sadly my racing season ended early. A very big thank you to my favorite group of veterans fighting for clean energy, Operation Free, and Sturman Industries for making the race possible. It was quite cool to drive the first race car to carry decals of wind turbines and solar panels on it. Clean energy is in the house, NASCAR!
